Road Trip

“There is another world, but it is within this one.” Paul Éluard

Presentation

What happens when we leave our own world behind to discover another? Road Trip explores what the elsewhere shifts within us: our perceptions, our points of reference, but also the way we see our own origins.

At the heart of the project is Dvořák’s “American” Quartet, composed during his stay in the United States. Harlem music, European traditions and influences from the New World meet and transform his musical language. Around this emblematic work, Florence Price, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Francis Johnson, Vivaldi and Haydn in turn trace musical identities shaped by encounters with other cultures.

In this new production by Le Concert Idéal, the works enter into dialogue to create a musical dramaturgy that travels from one world to another. Staging, lighting and movement accompany this circulation of influences, imaginations and identities. A journey in which the elsewhere becomes a lens through which we see ourselves differently, gradually transforming the way we listen.
